A little context before the listing: Everything I’m selling right now is helping fund two upcoming trips. In September, I’m traveling to Portugal for work and staying an extra four days on my own. Then in December, I’ll be spending about a month in Palestine volunteering with an organization that works to help protect Palestinian families from Israeli settler violence.
That second trip isn’t paid work. I need to cover the cost of getting there, but I also need to prepare for nearly a month of lost wages while I’m gone. So every sale genuinely helps get me there and makes it possible for me to take that time away from paid work.
Rust Patina Filigree Teardrop Earrings
I hand-painted a rust patina onto these filigree teardrops and then sealed them for protection.
The patina is a several-day process. I paint a variety of layers using primers, metal paints, and an accelerator that reacts with the metal paint to create an actual patina. It isn't simply a rust-colored paint or finish. The patina develops as part of the process, which means I never know exactly what I'm going to get.
And that's part of what I love about making them.
Because of the way the patina develops, no two pieces are exactly the same. Some areas may be darker, some more heavily rusted, and the color and texture will vary from pair to pair. Each one is completely unique.
The teardrops are approximately 2.5" long and finished with silver-plated ear wires.
